The last couple days we've had several appointments. First with Speech and Occupational therapy for an eval on feeding at Children's. A lot them figuring out where Eisley is and how do we get back to eating from here. We came home with a baby toothbrush - a pink rubber piece that goes on your finger and has very soft short bristles on it. Eisley seemed to really likes it. Hopefully we can use it to work her hypersensitive gag reflex back as well.
Next up is the new bottle. Looks more like a cow's udder than any type of bottle. But made for special needs babies, so they don't have to suck, biting will get them the milk as well. Depending how you hold the bottle gives her slow, medium or fast results on milk flow as well. Eisley wasn't really sure what to do with the milk once she got some in her mouth, so we'll leave it on slow for now until she better figures that out. I'm hoping that once she gets the technique back of suck-swallow-breathe that things will take off. I know she can do it, she's done it before, and now has the energy from a good heart to sustain it.
Today was occupational therapy from the school. Cheryl was surprised at how well Eisley is moving her arms and legs - it's been a month since she's seen her because she was due right after surgery and obviously didn't have therapy then. It seems like E's neck is more wobbly since surgery, but I guess some decline is to be expected and probably pulls on the chest muscles a bit too.
Tonight we tried out some rice cereal with Eisley, she took the first couple bites like a pro and then decided to spit the next few back like we had expected. She is really liking the new toothbrush. She still doesn't like being moved around a lot, so just picking her up to feed her sometimes sets her off. But bring on the toothbrush and she turns her attitude around pretty quick.
