As you may well know, Keira is definitely a girlie girl. She's not above digging in the dirt for bugs or splashing in puddles, but a little polish or blush and the girl is on cloud nine. For a couple weeks we've been luring her on (mostly to behave well) with an ending of a surprise with Daddy. Who doesn't love special time with someone you love, especially if you have their undivided attention?
Last year we renewed our season passes to Broadway Across America, with the final show being Beauty and the Beast. I had tossed around the idea of it being something Keira could go to rather than Sean & I. I ended up being on call for work, so a date with Daddy worked out great.
Keira still had no idea where they were going. After a hot game of baseball, she dashed home to clean up, eat and get dressed. After carefully selecting which dress, shoes, hair bow and lip gloss, she was ready. (However, she was a bit disappointed that Dad picked a polo and jeans to wear - she was expecting a suit, like he wore to Emily's wedding!) Better get used to it, those guys never wear just what you think they should!
Off they went - in the new car - to the Orpheum Theater. Sean told her it was similar to The Rose - the children's theater we've been to several times. Keira carried her own ticket and after entering noticed there were princess items for sale. She picked out a pretty charm bracelet. "Hey this flower looks like the rose from Beauty & the Beast." She was quite excited to hear that was the show they were seeing.
A little fidgity, but overall, she did really well. Intermission showed the advantage of being with Dad - being able to sneak in and out of the men's restroom while the really long line of the women's didn't budge. Keira even got lemonade and a cookie. Sean spoils our kids (and maybe me), sometimes it drives me crazy, but usually it's amazing to see them just enjoying time together.
Next up a date with Lexi - hopefully Mom will get a turn too!
